CIONZ is a newly established national organisation bringing together Islamic organisations, imams, scholars and community leaders from across New Zealand. We exist to represent, support and strengthen the Muslim community through genuine consultation, authentic Islamic guidance and capable, accountable governance — never by claiming to speak for others without a proper mandate.
Membership
Open to every organisation that serves this community.
CIONZ welcomes every kind of Muslim organisation — charitable trusts, incorporated societies, mosques, community centres, educational bodies, national initiatives, and groups not yet formally incorporated.
No organisation is too small, too new or too far from a main centre to belong, be heard, and have a vote.
Some work is stronger done together
Shared governance standards, training, coordination and a trustworthy national voice are things organisations can build together more easily than alone. CIONZ exists to add that shared capacity — it was established to build, not to oppose.
What we stand for
Authentic Islamic guidance
An independent Council of Scholars (Majlis al-Ulama) safeguards the religious integrity of everything CIONZ does.
Consultation before representation
We consult member organisations, scholars and the communities affected before adopting a national position. Shūrā (consultation) is a governing principle, not a formality.
Service to organisations
Governance support, training, coordination and a trustworthy national voice for Islamic organisations.
Constructive national engagement
Accurate, professional engagement with government, media and the wider New Zealand community.
Your organisation keeps its independence
Membership adds a national voice; it takes nothing away. CIONZ has no authority over how a member organisation governs itself, runs its programmes or manages its own religious affairs — each member keeps its own imam, scholars, madhhab (school of Islamic jurisprudence) and local practice. Cooperation around shared interests, with legitimate differences respected.
